STATEMENT
My work explores themes of displacement, disorientation, and the feeling of never quite belonging. I am interested in how intimacy with new places and objects can gradually develop until the foreign becomes familiar.
I am inspired by Russian Orthodox iconography, decorative painting, and folk art. My work combines materials from these traditions, such as egg tempera and metal leaf, with contemporary imagery and compositions. I am drawn by the drama created by contrasts: loose color and sharp line, tradition and change, movement and stillness.
